Primed the Willys. This is one of my favourite steps during a build, to see resin and plastic being blended together.
Primed all the tyres, prepared all crew members for paint and sprayed a very thin coat of desert yellow on the jeeps. All done in about an hour and a half. I was effective to night
A little update in the SAS Rover

I managed to spend a good six hours on the Iltis at the weekend, assembling the drivetrain. The parts included tiny steering arms, microscopic bump-stops, and misnumbered “handed” parts to make life confusing! Note carefully the orientation of the spring trapped in the two-part sleeve, as the tabs on the end need to fit with tabs on the steering arms, and both are offset. To handle the bump-stops I resorted to pushing on a blob of Blu-Tac before cutting them off the sprue - it was OK as long as I didn’t breath! These really ought to have been moulded in place…
You can really see how the engine leans to the right! My cunning plan is to assemble the body in such a way that I don’t need to attach it to the chassis until after everything is painted - it should just about work. And if I can figure out how to attach the free-floating radiator I can add the hoses…
Next up will be the bodywork!
I prepared some figures for some paint. All my jeeps is going to have a crew, and there is also four guys from LRDG for another Diorama.
Ah, shrinkflation strikes again!
I was waiting for next steps of your previous built.
This new project looks interesting with the Blackdog set.
An excellent choice, almost all the parts of an SAS Jeep are already in the box, though nothing is said about that, the missing bits are the cut down grill and condenser (?).
I had built it two years ago, but left the grill as is
It is on hold for now. I have another major build to finish first.
So after three hours the jeep looks like this
The .50 should be an aircraft gun, but I can live with a standard Browning in this scale. The Vickers K gun is from the kit, but I changed the magazines to Black Dog. The Black Dog weapons are crap, but the rest of the pieces are ok. The helmets might be a bit out of scale.
What is left is fixing the grill a bit, bending the sand channels and the steering wheel.
And as with most of my builds there will be some figures
It is really small…
The design is the same.
A little of putty to eliminate the writings and none of all the sharp eyes of your modelling club will suspect a mistake !
I sometimes replace kit parts with AFV CLUB AF35257 better made than a lot of other styrene jerricans, and cheaper than a resin production. The ones with a recessed cross design can be put in the middle of a row of jerricans.
Hello all,
First steps of my built.
Water cans from Legend Productions with photoetch straps and resin buckles from Accurate Armour update set.
Rear interior details from the Accurate Armour update set
L85 are from Gecko Models
About the seat color, it seems Hobbyboss is wrong with his indication (black).
In the instructions sheet of an old Accurate Armour kit, indication is for a pale grey.
I think I will repaint the seats which are a bit dark.
Real seats.
Repaint. Maybe a little better.
I think I’ll throw my hat in the ring for this one. Picked up the AFV Club M38 combo pack, going to do them up as Canadian versions.
Not 100% sure on the markings for the 106mm version, may do a OD UN one or might do the traditional Canadian 3 tone scheme
Hi Everyone.
Had some trouble logging into the forums since I began my travelling, but sorted now.
Some great builds going on, and great to see the number of guys involved.
At this stage, I expect I will not be finishing my build. I decided to take leave and travel for 6 months, but now I am thinking I will not return home until next year. I want to see things whilst I am fit enough to do them, unlike some of my friends that sadly left it too late.
Anyway, now I have access again, I am looking forward to seeing all your builds progress.
Cheers.
Oooooh, have FUN!!!
Jealous am I.
Mike
Great job Eric. Really looks the part.
Hope you have a great time … and enjoy !!!
