Odd question - did all the GMC open cabs come with the channel on the back wall for the ring mount? Or did the channel and right-front bracket for the support posts come with the field kit?
In his book “The CCKW Truck in U.S. Service”, David Doyle writes in a caption of a photo showing the “open cab” (on p.114): “The universal military cab was of all-steel construction and included three brackets for installing a ring mount for a machine gun …” A rear view of said cab on p.122 clearly shows the channels left of center and on the right hand corner.

Seems like a waste of good steel during wartime but if David says so!
No wonder he tells on p.114 that (in Studebaker US6 production), “the open cab was $2.66 less expensive than the closed cab it replaced.”
That raises the obvious question about the Tamiya kit, where you need to accessory set to get the channel on the rear - why wasn’t it in the base kit?
