Good Golly, Miss Molly!

Visited the bridge today. The data plate says it was built in 1903, so it really should be registered. Inside views show I still have a lot of work to do.

I was lamenting the fact that there are no modern bowsers in HO scale suitable for my project.

And then it hit me - lengthen the cab’s wheelbase, (it’s exactly the right one) shorten the tank, build a few boxes…

Yes, this will do quite nicely.

Possibly some useful bridge reference from Lexington, Kentucky.

Bumping this back into the homepage. The above were originally in Scene Around the Track.

Interestingly, a completely different project helped me get further along on this one. I made a jig to construct the deck on my bridge, but even so the ends of the I beams were not all exactly in line. And I mean I want them exact.
So I took this sanding block I made from 1/4 steel and evened them all off.

The wooden ties slide back and forth, so their misalignment is not an issue for now.

Now I’m getting closer to adding the plate girder sides. I’ll have to mark each I beam that will interfere with a vertical rib and trim it accordingly, just as they did on the real bridge.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Wise move making the jig. Keep going. Looking forward to seeing your creation.
