Grand Maket Russia

I think that this report will be of interest to all modelers, regardless of age, line of work and political affiliations. I suggest you get acquainted with the museum “Grand Maket Russia”. I “stole” the introduction from the main page of the official website, the screen of which is given.

Museum “Grand Maket Rossiya” was opened on June 8, 2012.

The exposition of the museum is the largest model of Russia in the world with an area of 800 square meters, which is an artistic embodiment of the image of the country: from its Far Eastern borders to the “amber” coast of the Baltic Sea. Dozens of various specialists have been working on its creation around the clock for five years. On the model surface, collective images of various cities and regions are conveyed, and in genre scenes virtually all types of human activity are displayed.

The dynamics of the composition is added by the railway and car traffic, various scenes with moving objects and figures are controlled by the audience. More than 200 trains pass along ingenious routes with a total length of almost two and a half thousand meters, and turn the model into a solid living organism. And the car system, using the electromagnetic induction for the first time in the world in model building, as a power source for cars, will not leave any visitor indifferent. Dozens of various cars will surprise you with the complexity and originality of their movement, while the headlights, brake lights and turning lights add brightness to the model and illuminate the roads at night!

Every fifteen minutes, from east to west, night falls over the model, to simulate which almost 800,000 LEDs are involved. The sea of lights makes the experience of the visitor really unforgettable!

The museum complex has a well-thought-out infrastructure: parking, a comfortable wardrobe area, a cafe, clean toilets. There are parking places, a lifting platform, a specially equipped toilet for people with disabilities. As well as special steps for young visitors, all the amenities in the sanitary room and in the cafe, a mother and child room, parking for strollers.

Along the rim, closer to the audience, there is a series of scenes with inscriptions. They’re bilingual, so you’ll understand.

Regarding documentary accuracy. I can’t speak for all stories. But here are two examples from my personal life.
This is the courtyard of the house where I lived for almost 20 years. Extreme North.

This is my visit to Vladivostok last year.

I think other stories with the same degree of certainty.

That is impressive, thanks for sharing.

I think it would take me a week visiting it every day just to feel like I got the barest feel for everything.

Thanks for sharing all the photos and explanations!

Edit: Everyone check out the museum link at the beginning of the post. There’s a short video and a lot more photos!

Thanks for sharing that, Yuri! :slightly_smiling_face: It’s great when you can make your hobby your profession. In which town is it?

Looking at the photos it remembers me of the Miniatur-Wunderland (or just known as MiWuLa) we have in Germany. I have visited that a few times already. Often crowded, especially at Christmas you’ll need several hours before getting in …

Cool. There are probably many such museums. Who else knows?
PS I was in the morning on a working day and you can see that there are a lot of people there. It’s hard to imagine what’s going on over the weekend.

That is seriously impressive- a continuing labour of love. It has so many interesting features- the scale and thoroughness of it is incredible. Thanks for sharing it with us.
