Gulf War M1A1 with Mine Plow Tamiya, WIP

My buddy once hit that same area of the bustle rack on my tank and with the end of his gun tube and busted off his collimator.
To make a long story very short a welder was involved later.

That’s going to make some people very cranky.

It did! A helicopter was involved, the civilian rep from GD was called in and we all had to pee in little cups to see if we would glow in the dark.

Brings back memories of the masking I did for mine… The end results speak for themselves… Great job :+1:

The Armorscale Barrel was a nightmare. The resin parts were a bit too small too fit on the barrel. I ended up having to drill, file and sand out the fume extractor as well as the rear most resin “collar.” The mantlet section didn’t really have any solid way of connecting. It did have a lower lip that would lock into the lower portion of the Tamiya turret but it would sit way too low. I ended up adding some plastic shims to the side of the turret and jamming the mantlet into the best possible position. It’s nicely detail, just not worth the work to me.

Here are the somewhat vague instructions for the “105mm” gun.

Love that anecdote. Really puts things into context.

Oops! The 256 is a 120!

I’m not sure how we didn’t get in trouble over this…

Sweet looking Abrams!

Looking forward to following.
