Or possibly a flat black and dry brush oily steel on them, and you wouldn’t have to be very neat about it if you’re going to weather them . (Sorry if this was mentioned already)

I said steel because the base color of the track in the photo’s is steel. You could do a wash of dark gray on them. If you use a black with steel highlights, the track will look like the old German track and not the modern Russian track.
