Can anybody tell me what this is ? and how it is attached to the dome.

Here’s another view…

The same turret (DL-131) was fitted to the Dornier Do 217 E-2.

My guess is that it is a counter weight to make rotation of the turret easier.

Aperantly is was to counter balance the drag created by the gun.

Any idea how it was attached … was it bolted straight to the dome or had it some fixture inside ?

There seems to be some kind of structure inside the dome, at least on the DO-217

It looks like it is attached to the turret ring. Don’t know if it’s bolted or welded.
