Was Steiner really Himmler’s favourite? I thought he referred to him as “my most insubordinate general”? Admittedly Sepp Dietrich would hardly be his favourite, as he tended to ignore Himmler and go straight over his head to Hitler and Bittrich had complete contempt for Himmler (and Hitler). That only leaves Gille, who was a previous incumbent as GOC III Pz Kp.
