Help needed on dating these Soviet figures from Dragon, presumably Cold War period, any idea where they might be deployed?
Much appreciated!

All of these uniforms would have been widely used in Afghanistan and then in the Russian Army throughout the 90s. By the time the Second Chechen War began (1999) the plain khaki ‘Afghanka’ uniforms were being phased out in favour of camouflage versions. However they were still used by Russian forces here and there well into the mid 2000s.
The equipment they are using, particularly the webbing gear and flak jackets were more common in Afghanistan- some of this equipment was used post 1990 but by the mid-90s a lot of this equipment would have been phased out.
I was gonna suggest American chocolate and blue jeans, but probably not what you meant…
They’re early 1990s kits, so they likely were meant to represent then-current uniforms and equipment.
All three kits can be safely used for a period of 1979-1989 (corrected year
). The Spetznaz is best for Afghanistan, the two others anywhere.
I have seen myself the Motor Rifle kit uniforms in Hungary (mostly in Budapest) and in Kiev (that time obviously part of the Soviet-Union) on the streets in between 1982-1990. So this kit can represent a soviet Red Army unit in Europe, too.
The VDV Assault Team are parachute guys and I would use them in Afghanistan war diorama, probably.
