For my ADGS build, I would like to acquire a conventional injected donor kit, and replace the 3DP hull and running gear.
AGDS build for AMPS-ATL show Feb 2025
The turret is within my capabilities. The 3DP hull is a bit fiddly (love the English language).
Those of you with Abrams models (IF you are so inclined) please measure and share turret ring OD, minus the lugs. The 3DP turret (from BananaTank) has a 63mm OD.
My kit shelf has an M1A1 whose hull race is too small by about 3mm. Ergo, I’m looking to avoid the 3DP hull, or damaging a good hull.
I appreciate that this means disturbing a prized static display. I’ll certainly provide a shout out to the person(s) providing assistance when I put this on the table. Our theme next year is Air Defense Systems, and I want to finish’s a unique example of what-if for the vignette class.
TIA!

So to be clear you’re looking for the inner diameter value for the turret opening on the hull ?

@Seanmcandrews The diameter of the hull turret ring needs to be slightly >> 63mm
Some parallax is inevitable in shots like this. So as shown, I need that brand hull which accommodates the 63mm turret ring. I can add diametrically opposite tabs if the opening is >>65mm, and make it fit.
Kind thanks for the reply.

I’ve got Tamiya, Dragon, & RFM kits I’ll check for you this evening.

I actually have 4. L to R, OG Tamiya, Dragon, RFM, and newer Academy.
Tamiya is 2.363 “(60mm)
Dragon is 2.464”(62.5mm)
RFM is 2.566”(65.17mm)

RFM
And Academy is 2.391”(60.73mm)
So none will be a perfect fit with Dragon being the closest.

Seems like a strip of Evergreen of the appropriate thickness lining the inner circumference would make any but RFM suitable.

Ummmm … Very early morning or a late night?
The question was about the inner diameter (the bore in engine terms).
The plug (piston) under the AGDS turret has 63 mm outer diameter,
the inner diameter of the turret ring (cylinder bore) needs to be slightly
larger than 63 mm.
The Dragon turret ring comes closest at 62.5 mm, 0.25 mm needs to be shaved off all around.
The other option is the RFM hull and reduce the turret ring by 2.17 mm (65.17 - 63 = 2.17),
leaving a little for fit margins and we arrive at 2 mm total reduction => a 1 mm strip (cylinder sleeve) glued the whole circle or used to increase the outer diameter of the turret plug.
I would check that the turret plug is a perfect circle first, rotate the plug inside caliper jaws.
@Ted_Dannemiller
Go for the RFM hull and add three tabs/pads on the AGDS turret plug

@Seanmcandrews
Pics and insights are VERY helpful. Turret piston (good analogy) is 63mm, thanks! My Academy was the short straw, so this is exactly what I need.
I think I can make strips fit one of the closer, larger bores on the hull shape. And you probably saw banantank shared that he used the Meng M1A2. Convergence, and I feel very fortunate to have your particular help.

Great advice, and thanks especially for the “fitup “!
