The photo shows a captured M3A1 used by Swedish UN forces during the Congo conflict (1960–64). Attached to the vehicle is a trailer — does anyone know what type it is? Also, is it available as a 1/35 scale kit?
I was thinking that the water buffalo in not that tall as the one in the picture? And the tube/pipe on top seems to be missing? It might be that it is actually missing since both the M3A1 and the trailer was, according to the history books, in bad shape when captured.
Don’t forget that there have probably been hundreds, if not more, designs of these types of tanker trailers, and all of them look more or less alike.
I have very little knowledge about them, but I can say it doesn’t look like a trailer of this exact type is pictured in my copy of Jane’s Military Vehicles and Ground Support Equipment 1987. Which isn’t very helpful, I agree
Just a thought, it might be a locally constructed (or modified) trailer. The fenders look like sheet metal, and the tank could be just an off the shelf item someone procured. Doesn’t take a lot of skill or facilities to knock together a trailer like this. As I said, it’s just a guess on my part until someone does that “ Encyclopedia of Military Trailers”.
This was originally molded by Peerless and came with their WC 56 Command Car. Testors separated the two and took the trailer from the WC 51/52 3/4 Ton for this set.
The whole tank has been flipped 180 deg so you can’t see the hand pump. The tank itself looks right. Different trailer base. It’s sitting higher off the frame. Maybe that is giving the illusion of being bigger. Or maybe I’ve eaten too many Christmas cookies and I’m out of my mind. Just my thoughts.
Italeri #229 released in 1981 full history goes back to MinimanFactory | No. MMF 35003 but only shows the M101 Utility trailer at least according to Scalemates. Now I’m curious and since the Italeri Kit has the water tank separate from its own trailer I just ordered it to see how it might appear if the tank was switched around 180°.
