Another question on water cans. The Panda kit has a bracket for the loaders side- but not one for the TC side. From the pictures I cannot see if crews carried a can on the TC side or not.
On the black and white image that @Delta21 posted; you can see there’s a fuel can mount as well, it’s safe to say there were on both sides.
Great pics of .50 cal.Always hard to see where the cables/Wires attach to.

Ok thank you— well Panda only gives you one bracket - and one can- for the loaders side.
Since there is no bracket on that side on the real vehicle you can just source a watercan fron the early Tamiya accessories set.
This set will also give extra kevlar helmets, ruck sacks, other goodies.
Just like our M1A1s we mounted spare track and a road wheel on the left and right side of the turret bustle. Since the straight M1s didn’t have a rear bustle rack they will have to be mounted where I marked with yellow.
Damn, I miss being on tanks … ![]()
Me too ![]()
By the way, you’re going to have to ditch the Panda tracks that come with the kit. They top of the tracks that contact the roadwheels are wrong.
About the oil/water cans: if you look at the photos posted above, on the left (loaders) side of the turret is a can with a mount, on the right (TC) side there is no mount, however, a can is often stowed there, as in the photo.

Ok thanks, so Panda got it right, no bracket on TC side.
I have the TRex T 156 set, have not really started work on them yet.
I have a stash box with all that stuff and probably a few of the Tamiya sets- got to have bench time to work on it first…
You should be set. I have the Panda kit as well and will be doing my beloved D-21. I also bought the Eduard photo etch set. It adds a lot to the kit.
So you were on the one in the photo with the snow camo? When were you there? I was 2/64, 1981-82.
Ken
Yep, I was in 2nd Plt, HQ Plt, D Co 3-64, 84-86, and D Co, 3-64, HQ Plt, 2nd Plt 90-92
Tony
My babe D-66 in 92.
Me on the turret front slope of D-21. Not sure who took the picture. 2nd Lt. Lapham (a.k.a., Spring Butt 6) on the back of the turret. Lol
- Note: no Muzzle Refrence System (MRS). Ours was turned in for repair but never got it back while I was on the vehicle. We just boresighted as usual. As gunner we shot 991 in TT-VIII.
Oh yea. The MRS on the 105mm was not much good anyway, too loose, and on the 60s we didn’t even have one.
