Plastruct hex rod.
The is the go to method … just a steady hand and a straight blade
Steady hand? Nah, I cheat. Install a row of bolts. I slice them off as evenly as I can, but all slightly over length. Then I take a sanding stick and sand them all to the desired height (and evenness) all at one time. Saves a lot of time and headache.
I’m not sure who you are referring to by “RPM” but I assume you mean RP Toolz?
In any case, you can still purchase both the RP Toolz Hex Punch and Die sets from AK Interactive. They are branded as AK, but they are the RP Toolz sets.
Also, HobbyEasy still shows stock of the RP Toolz sets as well.
UMM also makes 3 different sizes of hex punch and die sets, although I don’t think the quality is as good as RP. And UMM also sells RP Toolz and has stock of their hex sets.
I have one of the UMM sets. Works great!
A lot of etch sets have Hex holes in them. I glued two together to get a thickness I wanted. Clamped to a steel plate, you just heat up sprue in a candle flame and press into the hole. Let it cool and then slice of your hex bolt head. All flat and all uniform thickness.
That’s too much work for me, bruv.
thanks for the leads, guys. i checked Evergreen and couldn’t find hex - never gave Plastruct a thought.
i’ll scour the website links too.
appreciate the options!
I’m sure you’ll find it. If you can’t - hit me up.
Just ordered styrene hexagonal rod direct from Plastruct - they have a $ 25. minimum order .
Second UMM tools.
I vouch for UMM, I have one hex set and 2 round sets. You can punch out of styrene or thin metal sheets.
I have the same set as @Tank_1812 from UMM and it is most useful. Very high quality, useful sizes and built to last.
