HMS KENT Late 1942

My HMS Kent,

The Build shows the ship in late 1942, after the refit in which her catapult was removed, radars and new HACSs fitted, and her light AA improved by the removal of the qaud 50 cal and an addition of 4 single 20mm. I will admit to one oversight, there are probably several others, I did not enlarge the upper bridge wings to take the Mk3 HACSs, something that was not clear on the drawing or photographs of the ship in this fit, and I did not realise until it was a bit late to amke the modifications.

With this Camo, this was rather a long and in some cases frustrating build, as I via books and the internet I found about four slightly different varaints of this fit, maybe it was a bit organic.

Cheers, Si

Aesome work, Si :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Russ,

Very much appreciated.

I have always had a soft spot for ships named after the County I was born in. This one is the third out of four that were built or in service in 20th Centuary, the other two I have built in 1/350th,the pre dreadnought era Armoured Cruiser that took part in the Battle off the Falkland Islands in 1914, a Combrig resin, and the type 23, Duke class figate, launched in 1998, and commissioned in 2000, a Trumpeter job, and quite a good one.

I am only missing the Guided Missile destroyer, but the only kit in 1/350th is Atlantic Models, and theirs ia Batch 2 and Kent was Batch 1, Should not be beyond the whit of man to do the conversion, there are some structural differences, which mean surgery on a couple of large blocks of resin superstructure, it is an expensive kit that I cannot justify the cost and the risk. Might get lucky one day.

Cheers, SI
