Exercise in weathering… I built the Hobbyboss Leopard 2E pretty much it of the box. It was a bear of a kit at times. Lots of gaps and needing many scratch built parts to make it look as best it can. The decals disintegrated so I had to rob my spares box for some Spanish numbers and flags. The chevrons were also used as is present on some current versions. I also added eureka tow cables, Tamiya mirrors, Meng sprocket track retainer (THANK YOU LEE), chains on smoke candles and (home made - Cricut) holographic lenses. Heavily weathered with AK enamel dust and oils…
Very nice! Tis a far better place they’ve gone than any model of mine. I love Leopard variants; you’ve done the Spaniards justice.
Looks great. I know from experience, the early Hobby Boss kits are, well, challenging at best.
Yes, I must admit though… it dd build up into a nice model. I can see where they took some shortcuts in pumping out so many variants. I wish Tamiya or Meng would push out a few other nation’s Leos. I’d really like a STRV 122, Norway or Danish Leo 2 version.
Same here. I’m currently going a Revell ‘A6NL kit, which has it’s own challenges but really isn’t bad.
I was always curious as to why Tamiya didn’t expand on their original -A5, more than they did.
Yeah - its a missed opportunity (for them and sales) as well as for modern armor fans… but they don’t mind doing WW2 stuff over and over… for example a “New” Tiger I kit with Soviet markings… go figure. Good luck with the Revell Leo. I have built a few Revell Leopards and they can range from good to terrible.
