It is interesting how my post has generated more conversation about biscuits than modelling! ![]()
I’ve not posted because I’ve been getting ready to move house so modelling is difficult to find time for. Originally I had this (the one in front).
at both ends of the tube that will be the hover engines, but I wasn’t happy with it. So, I’ve had a re-thunk, and I’m reworking them. First of all i wasn’t happy with the cut at each end, so I used a pipe cutter to start me off (it wouldn’t cut all the way through) but it gave me the start of a neat cut and a pleasing bevel to the ends. I also felt that they needed to be fitted to the final drive and for that I would need something that would fit in the tube and have a short 90 deg turn. I was fixing something in the bathroom and found the ideal things amongst discarded pits and pieces. They are parts from a soft close connection for the bog seat. They were changed for a much better system several years ago and were saved, “just in case”, as many things are.
I then had to rag out the final drives to accommodate the length of the fitting. It was then just a case of adding the bottle cap front piece as before. The hover engines just need securing to the final drives and body.
With that solved I can move on to the sub surface radars at the front end.
A humble suggestion:
Consider replacing the angled fender ends with something rounded.
The angled flat plate looks odd above that nicely rounded fitting, almost as
if the parts were not designed to be located so close to each other …
Maybe something like these:
Swap them?
A good idea.
I’ll have difficulty removing the front rounded guards but I can make rounded ones to fit the rear. Thanks for the idea. ![]()
Take your time and experiment with different options, maybe something fancy
and “functional” to promote the Sci-Fi aspect.
Cool, but I normally build Aircraft!
So I really don’t have a clue what I’m doing.

Remember, it is Your fantasy.
The builders who build spaceship models for Sci-Fi movies just “invent”
things …
Thinking about those weaponised Jaffa cakes. Could there be a need for some
close in defense system? One launcher at each of the rear corners?
STOP…!
All I can now think about is a multi-barrelled gatling style gun firing fondant ‘French’ fancies or custard creams. No ![]()
Excellent idea!!

OR, how about a RWS but instead of your boring MG it has a gatling style Tea cannon, firing slugs of tea (milk and sugar included) or for the most persistent foe straight black tea!
I think the MLRS launched drones will take care of any biscuit/cake with bad intentions. But a Mini gun firing sugar lumps sounds interesting. ![]()
Not straight but “tea, Earl Grey, hot”… Make it so!

My apologies for not posting anymore updates. I got bogged down with trying to move house, but that didn’t happen, so I was left with little time to get this finished for Scale Modelworld.
The finished Diorama:
The Hobinator did win a couple of awards. It wasn’t in the competition, these were from clubs who give out there own awards.
And the explanation of this:
Life happens …
Excellent diorama!
Yes, there were several others on the table. ![]()
Damn it looks even more mad than I thought- in the best way! You certainly picked the color well that is for sure. It is inspiring (and cool) to see something so odd like which is an obvious labor of love that has a lot of thought and work put into it.
Did you see the IPMS Kitmaker stand?
I wasn’t there, I came across that picture online…
