How to weather an Aerosan RF-8/Gaz98?

I’m usually doing aircraft models but I do like armor too, so this Trumpeter kit is great, armor WITH a propellor. Best of both words.
I’ve got all the basic construction and painting done, but I’m stuck on how to go about weathering the body of the sled to get that grimy look I see in pictures. Right now it’s all in white, (my initial plan was to do off-white first, then do some white highlighting, but I was out of off- white and wanted to get on with it) but it’s just too stark, I need to bring it down several notches.
Last night I spent over an hour doing ultra thin filters with Abteilung Buff, so the surface is now broken up just a bit, but I need ideas on how to do the rest of it.

I was thinking of doing lots of micro dots of oils like Starship Filth, Industrial Earth, some gray, Unbleached Titanium, then scrub those in to break up the white even more.
After that, clear flat, then…is where I need some ideas.
I live in sunny Southern California so I really don’t even know how to portray grime on a winter vehicle, and I can only see B&W photos of these machines, so I am wide open for any help!

thanks in advance
Michael Smith
