HVSS & Super Sherman from TAKOM | Armorama™

@Rinaldi_R
I’m new to the Takom brand, but it sounds like they like to make many variants once they delve into a particular type of tank. I’d say the odds of a new M50 or several M50 version hitting the market over the next few years is probably good. I would also like to see them take the M4A1 large hatch hull back in time too. Maybe an early version like the ones seen in “Operation Cobra” would be fantastic. One can only hope.

First time I’ve seen the sprues…I’m not liking the molding on the splash guard on the turret ring area on the hull. Almost looks like a manufactured welded on piece rather than molded on. the edges on the cast hull look to be on the sharper side as well.

thanks for posting this!

I now have the M1 in my hot little hands and hope to soon be building it in the Shermania 2025 campaign. A couple of things I’ve noticed. First, there are exactly zero paint references in the instructions. Fairly nice 4 views of each marking scheme, but no information about what colors to use anywhere.

Next, based on an (admittedly) quick review of my references, the markings are missing some things. For example, the fourth option, 29th Tank Battalion, 16th Etzioni Brigade, is a fairly well documented vehicle. But while the hull serial number is correct, there should be at least three of the number blocks, and there’s only one. And the mantlet serial blocks all have one digit in red. I think that’s because Takom used the Star Decals sheet as a reference and it shows those red digits to signify that they’re not sure what that specific number was. They shouldn’t actually be red. Finally, the references show that the .50 cal. gun on that tank should be in front of the commanders cupola, and the kit has the MG mount molded behind it.

Not bashing the kit. The molding and detail look great to me. But if you want accurate markings, get and aftermarket sheet such as the Star Decals product and be prepared to do a little digging, and perhaps a bit of surgery.
