I already have most of the ground support vehicles.
Recently there was a thread about how poorly the landing wheel doors fit on many aircraft. Posing them in flight is sometimes tricky and involves a lot of filloing and sanding.
The old Williams kit was designed with the doors closed, so that’s not a problem for those wanting to pose it in flight.
Some aspects of the kit are quite nice. Others, not so much.
The raised panel lines will have to come off. They’re not accurately placed as it is. I’ll elaborate as the build goes on.
Cool Rob - It will be interesting to see how the old WB kit stacks up in the fit department - I have a couple of their big scale radial engine kits in the stash .
I’m guessing the ground support vehicles are the Airfix ones ?
Indeed they are.
There’s a newer kit by a company called VALOM. Even Scalemates does not have their instructions shown, but I know that it too suffers from a split windscreen in the front. The reason I say I’m going full on is that I’ll get what’s necessary to actually improve the kit, so I’ve already ordered a one piece replacement.
There will also be quite a bit of surgery going on to make it look like the one in the photo.
At one time there was a reality TV program - Ice Pilots IIRC - that documented the operations of a Canadian air carrier in the Northwest Territories.
They operated C 46 aircraft , DC 3 ( C 47) and others. Lots of C 46 footage .
The first thing that needs to go is the kit wheels. They’re very anemic and sport no tread whatsoever. In addition to an obscene amount or armor kits I use for parts, I also bought up aircraft supplies from hobby shops that went out of business. Unfortunately that happens pretty regularly.
So I happened to have resin wheels - correct diameter and the correct number of spokes. However, they have diamond tread on them and so far I’ve not found any photos to support that. I may have to go with some others. Plus, as usual with bulged wheels, they’re a little too bulged.
Hello!
Cool project, I’ll be watching this!
I have the Valom C-46, it looks good in the box, and I would have to check again, but I’d say the cockpit glass is one piece. I personally would like to build my machine as an Air America bird.
Good luck with your build and have a nice day

That’s one hard to get right kit… I’ve seen a few of them put together over the years and they all suffered from the gaps at the seams and not enough time taken of the fill and finish…
Slow going is the answer real slow…
Good luck…
And I’ve always wondered why no one else produced the kit in 72/48th… ?
Do you mean grabbing the wire rope instead of the strap (I don’t know the English term for the line that opens your 'chute). I personally made three jumps from 1000m from an An-2 and it looked similar as in this photo, but we only had one door, less gear and were in no hurry to get out
