What a movie. You think Old Yeller was sad, how about when they took out that herd of deer? ![]()
That’s an impressive list. Friend of mine sends me articles off of some website that spotlights actors and celebrities who served. So many of them. I can’t think of the guy’s name - he played in a lot of police movies - he was the only guy to survive out of his platoon on D-Day, survived the Malmandy Massacre, and was wounded six times during the war. Even suffering severe PTSD, he never complained and most of his fellow actors and friiends never knew about his War record.
Pearl Harbor, the 3 hours perfume commercial; I almost walked out when I saw they cast the unctuous Alec Baldwin as Jimmy Doolittle. That still makes me gag.
I think we’ve all been spoiled the past couple of decades. Band of Brothers. Saving Private Ryan. The Pacific. Tropic Thunder. Any of us could monopolize this website with the inaccuracies and other gaffs of those movies. Regardless, they’re still pretty dang good. Maybe not better than Battleground, but pretty good. Maybe not as good as Battleship but ehh.
A friend of mine and I, when we get the time, we’ve been geeking out over all the old Star Trek and Star Wars movies, and dozens of old war movies. Guns of Navarone. Where Eagles Dare. Das Boot. Bridge to Far. The Blue Max. We watched the 1970s Midway the other night - love those Spitfires, Messerschmitts, Heinkels, and Korean War jets blasting around. To Be honest, I can’t wait to watch Kelly’s Heroes and The Dirty Dozen. I take these movies as they are. I gotta admit I cringed last week when I watched The Big Red one, especially storming the beach during Torch without a single ship behind them. (I kept hoping the old Oberfeldwebel hiding behind the big cross would suddenly shout out, “Luke, ich bin deine Vater!”)
I’d say put all of us together as technical advisors, give us a billion dollar budget, and we can make a pretty good movie. One that lots of other people would come out and pick apart. But I think we’d make a good one.
There is also Jack Webb from dragnet.
I think going the opposite direction, HBO’s Band of Brothers, is the most realistic production I have seen.
I haven’t been able to identify this fellow. The only actor I know who was wounded on D-Day itself was Jimmy Doohan (“Scotty”), who was hit by half-a-dozen rounds from a Bren fired by a twitchy Canadian sentry late in the evening of the 6th. Four rounds mangled his right leg, one took off his right middle finger and the sixth, which hit his chest, was - in the best Hollywood tradition - stopped by his metal cigarette case… A Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery at the time, after recuperation he trained as an Air Observation Pilot flying Auster AOPs with 666 (AOP) Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force; although he actually remained in the RCA (and was promoted to Captain), and never become a member of the RCAF, this caused him to become known as “craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Force”…

Inserting Darth Vader into the scene with his helmet re-coloured and with Afrika Korps insignia is certainly feasible by those with the skill and inclination, and would rank with Vulcan XH558’s insertion into the X-wing formation at low level down Derwentwater in “The Force Awakens”…
V10 YT - NanoZoom - Intro1 - GB
but probably not much will equal this
ROAD WARS - The Imperator Strikes Back (Mad Max/Star Wars Mashup)

I guess it’s Charles Durning

I’d tend to agree that “Band of Brothers” is the most realistic War “movie” thus far, it shows war is terrifying, boring, (at times) funny, disgusting and adrenaline filled. Some other movies have accurate scenes, and/or are historically correct but they don’t impart the “feel” BOB does (my opinion, others may disagree). A truly realistic war film would probably make most of the audience sick.
Indeed …
I haven’t been anywhere close to the real thing but the very small snippets I have seen on YouTube are bad enough
Yeah, 55 years later there are things I wish I could unsee, and my exposure would be considered mild in comparison to Omaha Beach, Iwo Jima or Falaise.
Yes, Charles Durning.
If I recall correctly, Albert led his landing craft up to that sunk Japanese transport that was being used as a giant pill box, and had something to do with neutralizing it. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the story but I think his landing craft was full of stuff you did not want to be full of if somebody was shooting at you.
Odd I didn’t make the connection as I had mentioned him in one of my earlier posts, but my source must have been light on detail…

If you want goofy, look no further than Jackboots on Whitehall. Cannot recommend this one enough. Barking mad but very, very funny!
Pearl Harbor was horrible, I think we all can agree.
The crazy stuff is on Bitchute.
Marine Iraq combat veteran who is a good friend liked 9th Company.
I can definitely not, in any way, shape, form or whatever guarantee that this is a true story:
Still funny though …
I’d imagine some of it is true, I’d love to see the video they made.
I just returned home from Camp Lejuene yesterday after spending two weeks there helping my son who is on convalescence leave after being injured. I’ll ask him if he’s ever heard of this video. Any idea how long ago it was made?
If I ever tried sliding under a garage door on a military base anywhere, I probably would have gotten arrested. Safety is drummed into one’s head constantly. At least when I was in lol!
Haven’t got the faintest idea.
It sounds like some AI-voice reading a script,
the script could be pure imagination loosely based
on some sort of facts …
