Not so much a new variant of the Pz II a1 as it is the 2023 kit with what appears to be resin roadwheels?

The kit will come with new plastic wheels. The 3D printed wheels are a separate detailing set as the kit wheels are molded in two halves.

So the wheels are the only difference between the two releases then?
I guess it doesn’t really matter as I don’t have an “a1” yet anyway, just the “a2” and the “b”.

The Ausf a/1 also used solid idlers (which from the boxart it looks like these are included), larger diameter narrower return rollers (boxart shows later wider, smaller diameter ones) and narrower Kgs 67/280/90 tracks with open guide horns (boxart shows later, wider Kgs 67/300/90 tracks with solid guide horns included in all the other kits).
Having said that, Ausf a/1 were upgraded with some or all of the above later features, but part of that upgrade seems to have included the reinforcing “cones” on the lower rear plate, which the boxart does not show.
