This spring, IBG went public with their plans for a series of early Spifires, Mk I to Mk V and catering to some of the oddballs as well. Now, finally they have arrived! I have both the FW-190 and the IAR.80 and they are really nice, the hopes were high for these and the fact that they beat Eduard to it makes it even more interesting!

I will of course do a pink one, they come in green, blue and pink in this boxing.

In the tiny box from the previous photo, there is a 3D-printed cockpit…

…printed as ONE SINGLE PART (OK, the “can” behind the pilot’s head was separate but I can live with that…).

Dressing up the fuselage sides. Cheating a bit since the very complete interior (tanks and stuff and whatnot from the firewall to the rudderpost for those so inclined…) is supposed to be built as a pod and inserted from below. These kinds of designs always makes me nervous so I build it one side at a time glued to the fuselage halves.

I don’t feel like taking photos of the myriad of parts that comes with this kit (there are specialised sites for that kind of content out there) but as an example, there are six different props and five different spinners included. I’ve pilfered one of the three-bladers for my build but you can see the rest of them, including a two-bladed one for very early Mk Is.

Of course I had to get the flagship kit as well with two Mk I / Mk II kits in one box, including 3D-printed interiors.
I’ll start with the PR machine, we’ll see if I get to one or both of the BoB-machines as well.

Ooo, following with interest Magnus
Looks good.
I’ve acquired quite a few Airfix mk1’s (cheap Lidl starter boxings), but I will be looking out for the recce and MkII’s from IBG.
@Russelle I knew this would be something for you
@phantom_phanatic The new-tool Airfix Spit I is a nice kit, it is also a lot less fiddly than these! The starter kits can be well worth looking out for, especially since I suspect most of us already have droves of decals laying around already.

A very stable wingspar, just the kind of thing you need when trying to outrun that 109!

Camera bulges in clear plastic. The ejector ports have been filled in, do it with care since there is a lot of fine surface detail around!

Interior painting started. I’m also filling in the machine gun ports using styrene rods, unarmed and unafraid…

Let’s call the interior finished, it is easy getting stuck here forever detailing things that will never be seen on the finished model.

There are even a few more parts than the ones seen above that I didn’t bother to install…

…and here are both fuselage halves. Sorry for the badly cleaned-up dark wash, it can’t be seen from the outside though!

And a final round of Spitfire assembly before bedtime yesterday!

That’s the plan anyway. Got a few 109’s and P-51’s for the same intention. Pity they don’t do a cheap metal wing Hurricane mk1. Can do a lot more with it than the fabric wing. As much as I love the Arma Hurricane, it can get a bit pricey!
Anyway, this one’s coming along really nicely. IBG have crammed a lot of detail into it considering the scale.
Wow! That interior looks like it’s 1/32! Brilliant

There was a “show your workbench”-period a few weeks ago over at IPMS Stockholm so you’ll get a look as well! Not that tidy but not super-messy either, I try to clear the table between each project.

Cockpit masking, I use one of the spare canopies for closing it off. There are a bunch of these meant for future marks and boxings.

Masks for the camera lenses are included with the kit, a nice touch!

A quick pass with the airbrush using Hataka PR pink with Gunze Levelling Thinner and some MrP clear added to the mix.

Roundels and letters.

Have a nice weekend!

Looks good Magnus…
How are you finding the Hataka paints?
@Russelle Hataka paints are “OK”, I have used them every now and then but they won’t beat my two favourites Gunze or MrP. In this case I appreciated trusting someone else to get the colour right, avoiding mixing my own shade of pink!
Finally finished!

Canopy is rather thick and the “PR-bulges” come as separate parts that will need to be carefully glued using white glue or other suitable glue for clear parts. Considering it’s thickness, I think it looks OK anyway, especially if left open. Next time I’ll paint the frames before attaching the bulges, it was tricky masking over them!

If you wonder about the shading, this is what I used: Davy’s Grey is a fairly light, greenish, grey. My daughter knows her colour wheel so whenever I’m in doubt I ask her: shading is always done with the complementary colour from across the wheel which in this case is green. I feel tempted shadowing green with pink next time, just to test the theory…

Note cameras below the wing.

And this is my steadily growing collection of PR-Spitfires, the Ventura PR XI was build in 2000 I think…
This is a nice kit that I will build again, I have a double boxing of ordinary Mk Is. And I might get another one of these to do the same machine in it’s earlier, green, “camotint”-scheme.
Now officially finished and it has moved to The Collection!
