IBG's Einheitsdiesel Kfz 61

So our local hobby group had a garage sale and I bought some older oddball ESCI, Italeri, Tamiya and Dragon kits and the seller tossed this in. Only kicker was it had been started so I missing most of the parts including the main frame and cab/body. Anyone dealt w IBG for replacement sprues, honrstly I’ve never seen one of their kits up close so completely unfamiliar w them as I am of the actually vehicle itself. I normally just build armor.

Alternately has anyone started and shelved this kit and willing to part w the subassemblies in the first couple of steps? I’m really unfamiliar w this truck and have no idea how to scratch build the frame.

Just looking for idea what to do with this, I was thinking even if I could get the frame I might be able to cobbler some sort of cab and flat bed and do a “what if” mounting some sort of flak gun for kicks, one of the kits I got was Dragons 6353 3cm flak so that got the gears turning…

And this being such a resourceful group of builders I figured I’d kick this to you guys for ideas. Sure requesting the sprues may be easiest however being US and they seem to be from Poland I wasn’t sure how smooth this would go. In addition I’d end up having to request a sprue that I have 75% of so it seems a bit wasteful.

So let’s see what ideas you guys might have this Sunday.

Never had an IBG so I don’t know but you could just ask them. Contact Us – IBG Models

For the frame Evergreen C channel should do the trick. Someone like @petbat probably even knows the right size to use.

Thx, sent them a note. I’ve thought about a simple box frame, if I could guesstimate some approx dimensions but I’ll wait to see if I get a response there or if some other guys have some addt info. Do appreciate the link and help!

I tried contacting them last year for a replacement sprue. Got an answer and sent all the address info and such they asked for but then nothing ever arrived.

I chose not to pursue it as I ended up scratching the couple parts I needed.

Might help if you speak Polish as the email I did get was very broken English.

Well I speak as much polish as I do Korean or Swahili. Absolutely zero. I’m illiterate in no less than 30 languages. I used to speak a bit of japanese and German but haven’t practiced or used those for over 30 years. My pidgin Spanish I picked up while living in Vegas is rusty. Live in Montana, not !much of a melting pot…

Thx for the insights.

Hi Chris:

This might be a start to working out the chassis:

A build Blog:

A significant amount of work ahead. It may be better to use what you have as a disassembled vehicle dio.

I think if I can figure out the measurement of the frame, length and width, that I can manage the remainder. I mean it was free so if I can’t get it worked out I’ll figure something out for it.

If you can’t work out the frame, you might consider mounting it on another chassis. The bodywork was a standardised unit and I’ve looked at my completed IBG kit and the Tamiya Krupp Boxer side by side and it might fit. The Boxer also commonly carried this body and the wheelbase while not quite the same is close.

Thank you for that reply, what I may do is pick it up p to build but also to borrow the frame measurements from. I’ve always been wondering where my skills are at and doing a simple box frame as a first step makes some sense. Even if it’s a bit rough it’ll be covered up by the rest of the build. But I do appreciate you taking a look at your two and giving your impressions!

If I can interject something here that might help: The frame on your vehicle is a box girder construct rather than the more typical “C” channel designed frame.

I encountered a similar problem with the Tamiya Steyr frame and I wanted to make it more correct.

Here is my solution:
(It was a bit of work but I was very satisfied with the result.)
