Here is a brief update to my journey making IDF sherman based SPGs. The Makmat is done and available on Cults. I am currently making the L-33 Ro’em Alef. This is the version with the step on the rear of the hull. The Bet version has the straight rear. I am thinking of modelling that version as well (it is already started) but i am lacking any interior photos of that version. If anyone has any, i will make it worth your while (think free downloads of the models).
With that being said, here is the latest CAD. The gun is now mostly complete, and many of the exterior and interior details are done. I would say it is about 95% complete. The main thing i need to do is all the interior conduit. I am hoping to have it ready for test prints this spring
After this, i am planning on starting on the M50 SPG. I do not have anything started on it yet so it will be a new design and thus take a while to CAD.

Im sorry i don’t have any pics of their interiors cause the only open one is stripped bare of everything but the gun. The rest of them on display are welded shut

Those images look fantastic. If I can reduce my stash somewhat that is definitely on my list.
Although I can’t help you either, I’m glad you have made that offer. So many people doing 3D atuff on the side these days don’t seem to realise the time and expense even for a “local” trip. A base three hours away is an all day affair photograph one vehicle.
Your interior detail on the gun already beats what AEF Designs did on theirs. Presumably Tony had good references way back then - the shape of the gun towers appears to be correct. I assume you’re using images of the towed version.

Agreed. Whether it’s providing the reference photos, data, or making CADs for 3D printing, those activities are philanthropic…

I am yes. I found many good images and drawings of the M-68. I did find an error that i had to fix with the mount not too long ago which resulted in me rebuilding most of the gun mount

I get it. i was not asking or expecting anyone to go out of their way to take photos, but more hoping that someone who visited a museum or was a veteran of the IDF had some stashed away on their hard drive somewhere.
The issue i have is that there are only two vehicles left, both the Alef versions with the stepped rear hull. I have TONS of photos inside and out of that. I have not found any interior photos of the BET version however, and none survive today. Since the interior of this is so exposed, i feel i need to see how it was laid out to really be able to replicate it properly

I work with a lot of 3D producers now, in addition to the usual plastic companies. I know one of the things several folks have asked for is an M1064. I have a complete walkaround of it with interior shots and slat armor from Iraq. I was trying to get one produced. My usual “fee” for my time and expense is a copy of the item. One guy said something to the effect that it would cost him too much, so I guess we’re still waiting. However, I have a feeling it may turn up in resin and PE within a year or two.
How different do you think they are? Does the Alef version have projo stowage in the rear similiar to the M109? It seems logical given that crews tend to like things in the same location.

Hi Sean,
BTW, is this your cults3D page: https://cults3d.com/en/users/novaee04/3d-models?
Some really nice designs you got!
Kind regards,
James

I am not sure. If you look at it, the Bet added ALOT of volume. I attached a couple of photos of each. To model it the way that i want to, i would need to know what was in that extra space.
I would offer to do the M1064, but i have such a backlog currently that i would not be able to for a long while. I would have no issue with that “payment”, i am doing that with someone now for these IDF models.

That is my page yes. I basically just post what i design for myself. If i can bring in a little extra to cover my time while helping someone else out, so much the better.

Just a thought - maybe it’s just to give the crew a litle more head room. On the Bet version there are extra hatches above that area.
