I’m calling this done. I’ll do some cargo for it. I’m working on fuel drums which will take awhile and I might have something else also. But the Gondola is built.
This was a great kit. I’m looking forward to doing another MiniArt rolling stock model. The only real challenge I think about doing this kit is building the box. Because the plastic is pretty thin and seems a little soft, the box is pretty hard to get straight all the way around. I think if I do another gondola I might figure out how to run some thin metal strip along the top under the plastic to keep everything square better.
It would be cool to have several of these parked on a siding in a big setting.
I hope we do another railway campaign in the new year. I’m learning a lot not only from research and building my kit but what others are doing and the discussion around it. Let’s keep it going!
@phil2015, yes, let us have another campaign. Suggestions for theme welcome. Another potpourri or so.ething specific, like rolling stock, logos, trackside structures, industries, etc.
I would like to do a theme - perhaps we could try something and see if we get enough interest? I like the idea of trackside structures. What do you mean by industries? Would something like passengers be of interest - is that an industry?
Thanks to everyone for their positive feedback it really is appreciated, , and the joshing about scales and use of photoshopping had me chuckling, so thank you again, .
Your question is a valid one Mike, and no, you’re not being a pain, applying the tape to the inside seems a logical comment, . However, when I was looking online I found the following images which seem to suggest the tape was applied externally…
It was just the harder to reach upper levels that caught my eye. Regardless, I think your build is exceptional! And anyway, artistic lisence works mor me.
Managed to get a couple of hours work starting on the roofs, the stone façade’s roof has been tiled and a basic undercoat applied, the bargeboards and tiles are just individual pieces of old greetings cards.
To give some variation each roof will eventually have different sized tiles, not sure if that’s realistic, but figured that the brick element might have been a later build to the stone one, so different roof material used.
I think you’re bang on the mark with your observations Mike, I think, as you say, that in reality they would have been taped internally, especially above the ground floor level, .
@g-man69, those plank wagon conversions will enhance the time-scene. Your roof work is also amazing. As others have commented, your coloring is superb.
@phil2015, passenger stations are perfectly fine for industries. Passenger service - long and short haul, and commuter service - was big business for railroads (although usually money looking.)
For my next subject of this group build/campaign, I am thinking of a station I have. That or the 1/35 s.SP. with turret.
