My local shop had both of the kits in stock. Wish they added an option for an SPG-9 on the truck, to make it like the technical used in the movie “Blackhawk Down”.

Just saw it. 
That’s me sat on top of the Iraqi Toyota on Highway 80 in your third pic from 35 years ago. I just started making models and stumbled on this by accident. I don’t mind you using the photo but curious where you found it as I don’t recall it being public until last year and am interested to know where it has ended up.

It, and programs like it, use a method called scraping. If you, or anyone, has evwer posted that photo on any of the social meia platforms, they can get it. And even of you delete the photo, they still have it in their database.

Hi Sandgrownun. Amazed as you, but also always glad to know the persons behind those pics. I have it downloaded from the net on 22 may 2017, and most probably Facebook from some of the data, but have no more clues on it. At the time there were still bucketloads of pictures posted by veterans, own ones or chased whatever the way from other sites, units or friends. Sorry if it has broken some intimacy, anyway.

Makes sense. I am fine with it being used and out there, if anything I am a bit flattered it served a purpose. I only actually posted it last year as my Facebook profile pic for Remembrance Day in the UK and was confused how it was posted here some years earlier. I have obviously posted it some time before but do not recall. I have left it on in Solidarity for the UK veterans currently being pursued for prosecution for their actions against terrorists.
If anyone is interested, it was taken on Highway 80 (Highway of Death) a day or so after the Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait in 1991. Not sure it it was a Iraqi or Kuwait vehicle as the retreating Iraq armies stole anything they could drive to leave and controversially were decimated by US air strikes as they did so. I was positioned at that location for 2 weeks providing Air Defence with Tracked Rapier. Not the best 2 weeks of my life to be honest.
I recall seeing lots of these and similar vehicles in the desert with drain pipes setup resting on the cab of the vehicle to act as decoys or to misrepresent artillery pieces.

Thanks a lot for the extra information, always great to know first hand accounts. That Toyota, from the sign on the door, was owned by 6th Armoured Division, 4th Mechanised Battalion, of the Iraqi Army. Quite popular and used in large numbers, many were in fact ex-Iranian war booty.
