did italeri launch this as a new mold or is it tamiya kit reboxed?
I’m pretty sure it’s an Esci one.
Correct, well at least scalemates agrees it’s the Esci line.
Deffo it’s the old ESCI tooling that Italeri & Revell have repopped numerous times over the years. Not bad for 1970s tooling, but nowhere near today’s standards.
Further to my post, think of it as similar in moulding and detail standards to the old Tamiya M48.
Yep Esci.
David always keep Scalemates in your saved bookmarks, you can check the age and original origin of most but not all kits.
It’s better than that: you get separate handles for the stowage bins in this kit, for example. Yes, it’s not up to modern standards and can use some detailling, but if given the choice between a Tamiya M60 and an Italeri (or original ESCI) one, there’s no contest. The only advantage the Tamiya kits have, is that the driver’s hatch can open on those.
This post is an interesting synchronicity considering what is currently out for delivery.
i keep forgetting about scalemates, thanks folks.
It’s actually superior in most respects to the Tamiya M60s/M48s, in addition to being newer in origin.
Its still a nice Kit Klaus.I have a few Esci/Italeri ones as i like the M60.The only tricky points are like any M60 the tricky turret stowage basket assembly.Plus the tracks are not good at all.You end up with either one link short or too many.Afv club make better replacement tracks although tedious to clean up they are better then the kit ones.

Late 80’s tooling, released right after Tamiya’s M60A3 released.
Yet again, the message gets flagged for Tamiya for including text not just denying that it is a Tamiya kit but noting that it is better than the Tamiya release, while Italeri and Esci get nothing.
It’s always about the money, and when someone says, “It’s not about the money”, you know it’s only about the money.

It’s an easy fix.
Yet again ? I can’t be the only one that doesn’t even notice the sub tags.
Back to the kit and modeling. The Italeri (ex-Esci) M60 kits are quite nice and were the best on the market until the Takom kits, in my opinion. The AFV Club M60s have way overdone cast texture and a few other issues, I don’t really consider them that great.
The track issue can be fixed with a little work or replacing them with AFV Club (or other) individual tracks. The rest of them are really nice with fine details, separate handles for the sponson boxes, etc., etc… They will build up nicely and still stand up well to more modern kits.
Yep, better than Tamiya, almost as good as Takom, and can usually be found for a great price.

Normally I don’t either, but I guess after seeing Tamiya tags placed frequently and inappropriately, and likely automatically, I guess my eye is attuned to it.
There are plenty of posts where it is appropriate, but also a good amount where the only mention is something like “I ended up attaching it with Tamiya Extra Thin”, “Tamiya repackages these but you can find them at any beauty supply store”, or in this case, “It’s actually superior in most respects to the Tamiya M60s/M48s”. What really makes this notable is that this doesn’t happen with other brands, even when other brands are the actual subject of the post.
Still, some folks think I need to “get over it”.

I agree with Gino & Ken. I built the ESCI kit years ago
Just like apologies, repairs are nowhere near as good as not goofing up it in the first place.
