Scientificmodels announced new bust:
Japanese Firefighter
Scale: 1/10
Material: resin
That is a good looking bust.
I first saw the box art of this by Magnus Fagerberg over on Putty and Paint. (I’d encourage you guys to have a look as it is a masterful piece of work by the painter.)
Soon as I saw it I had to have it! My clicking was quick enough to bag the first production kit too! I thought I would post some pics of the resin for anyone interested.
As you can see it’s a characterful sculpt with a suitably stoic and determined look on the face. The various details are sharp and the pose, I think, matches the facial expression well.
Looks great. Got the shipping notice today.
Received mine a few days ago, #5.
The one thing that I ponder most besides replicating the hi viz on the jacket is the mask glass. Not sure the best way to address the issue.
On the box art it is simply left as is. Probably the only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of the glass- and perhaps lack of decals for various bits of equipment - but its rare to get decals in busts. The hi-viz on the jacket looks quite good on the box art- there are various neon paints that could replicate the color too- though I’ve used several brands and have never been happy with them (consistency, coverage issues etc).
I was not aware/thought about that.
They are certainly worth a try for various effects. For me the worst ones were Scale 75 FX Fluor- very poor consistency and coverage. GreenStuffWorld have a nice range that, with a bit of thinning, airbrushes well. I also have Scale 75 Artists Acrylics neon set but I haven’t used any yet so I can’t comment on it.
I would also say to look at some of the Game Color paints from Vallejo- I’m using a Game Air blue color (Magic Blue I think) that is vivid and bright- they have a few orange colors in the range that might suit the high vis bits on the uniform.
Thanks for the information. I will see what the hobby store has for Vallejo tomorrow.
I wonder if it might be possible to make a small form and heat form some packaging plastic over it.
It could be possible, I guess. It is rare enough to get clear parts in a bust at this scale. Personally I’m not at all fussed about it- the interesting subject matter trumps that particular issue for me.
