Japan's own Mini-Muscle Car!

It’s always interesting to see the effects of a culture’s influence on foreign ideas. The history and sensibilities of one culture can often produce a “funhouse mirror” effect, creating something clearly based-on, yet still distinct from, the original ideas. We’ve seen it in art, fashion, food, music and yes, evne in automotive design.

A perfect example is how Japan saw and adapted the concept of the American Muscle Car to its own automotive products. While Japanese cars of the Good Old Days were certainly nowhere near their US counterparts in terms of sheer size or power, some of their designs were “elegant distortions” of American design tropes.

A perfect example is the Mitsubishi Galant GTO-MR, and I thought it would be fun to review an older, “contemporary” kit of that car, so that not only would the design of the real car show Japan’s approach to things, but so, too, would the kit .

Check out Nitto’s 1/24 1970-1971 Mitsubishi Galant GTO-MR at the link below, and get ready for some distinctly nostalgic motoring, and modelling!
