JGSDF Type 10 1/35 Tamiya

Right Robin. I’ve started to wash my Type 10. I used some brown all over the tank then I applied a pinwash with a darker brown.

Next steps are the water pencils application and the pigments.

I have had some success with filters, basically the soup left over from cleaning the airbrush
after painting all the camouflage colours.
In this case it would be a very thin, less colour than tea, mix of green and brown.
It will hopefully take away some of the sharp differences between the brown and green fields, the green will get a very slight brownish tint and vice versa.

I’m only asking this here due to the last couple of comments, do you apply washes/filters directly to the paint or gloss coat first then apply.

For the few that I actually did it on (German WW II three colour camo), I didn’t bother with the kits that were all in one colour, I applied it before gloss/satin coat.
I imagine that the matte surface catches the pigments better.
When doing washes were a very precise application of the wash is needed I think it is best to apply the wash after the gloss/satin coat, otherwise it will be very difficult to clean up if too much wash is added. The matte surface will draw out the wash in unwanted directions.

You want a clear coat first so that you don’t stain the paint. Gloss makes it flow better.

Wash and filter aren’t the same thing. This is my understanding of these methods.

The filter intends to slightly alter the overall look of your paint job while the wash intends to highlight the details.

So the filter is applied before any gloss coat is on. Contrarily the wash /washes is/are applied over a gloss coat to benefit from a better flow as mentioned above by Matthew.

Thank you all I might try with the next kit I’m finishing up hopefully soon.

I put the final touch on this beast with spraying some pigments diluted with Tamiya acrylic thinner. I just wanted a slightly dusted lower hull and running gear.

I’m calling this one done.

Nicely done Olivier- just the right amount of weathering to let that superb camo scheme shine!
