This is one of two twin Stukas built (almost) simultaneously from November 2021 to April 2022. One is proudly displayed in a friend’s display case, the other in mine.
The Stuka has always fascinated me, maybe for those gull wings and the crazy and difficult bombing technique used during the Second World War.
However, I was attracted by the desire to represent it in an unusual way, different from what is normally seen on the workbenches of us modelers.
Fortunately, Trumpeter provides this possibility, bringing to the market this version with skis.
Without going into too much detail, this version was used on the Eastern Front in an obvious attempt to facilitate take-offs and landings on improvised snow-covered airfields. Below a couple of photos from the time.
The experiment did not last long as the disadvantages in terms of speed in flight and maneuverability were considered to outweigh the advantages that the skis provided to the pilots. But the idea of representing the Stukas with boots and skis seemed interesting to me.
Some shots taken during the build:
The crews, before “dressing up”
and afterwards:
Some details of the small diorama that houses the model
And finally the model finished starting with a few b/w shots
That’s all.
Greetings to all.
