King Tiger V2 now in the workshop for restoration

The prototype Tiger II V2 has been moved into the Tank Museums workshop and work has now started on the 4 year project.

This is fascinating! But also a bit sad. I first encountered the beast in the early 1990s in its cheesy Tamiya-style three-colour camo, and somewhere I have a half-finished kit of it exactly “as found” with all the empty clamps and missing bits. So it was a bit of my past, and seeing it transformed feels a bit final. BUT… if it preserves it as a fully running tank, that’s got to be good!

I hope and pray that the lads at The Tank Museum will do right by the big cat and get it fully operational again. It will be a big undertaking, but if some small tank museum in Australia can bring a Stug IIIG from a wrecked pile of scrap metal to a fully running tank, I believer they will do right by that King Tiger.
