i remember them in the RAF flying with 43 squadron out of Leuchars here in Scotland.
Look like they were around twice as long as any of the pilots.

Over 60 years of front line service so far for the type. Pretty good for old man McDonnell’s design team.

When I worked as an engineer at GE Evendale (Cincinnati) in the 1990s, we were looking at sourcing J79 engine fan stator vane washers for the engine case repairs. This got so desperate that a couple of us drove to Dayton to look into what the US Air Force Museum had on display! It was past time to let these old race horses out to pasture.
