Korean War FV18001 Mk 1 80inch 4x4 Utility Vehicle (Early Production with 10CWT Bantam Trailer | Armorama™

A fantastic new release from Gecko Models that I am sure will prove to be a sought after release by many of us, the Korean War FV18001 Mk 1 80inch 4x4 Utility Vehicle (Early Production with 10CWT Bantam Trailer.

Good review Darren, and always nice to see a vehicle from the 50s; sadly, to me, no canopy equals no interest (assuming from your pics that there isn’t one).

The use of a US trailer is a bit suspect though I’m sure there’s probably a photo out there that will prove the model. But as I say, no canopy is a big No-No from me.

Knowing Gecko I suspect another offering will follow fast on the tail of this one and if it does you can have it for a build review being near by.

Darren, thanks but no thanks(!) - though part of me wonders show easy it would be to convert to a Belgian Minerva. Hmmm.

Seriously, with around 250 kits in the stash I need to a) have a really good health plan, or b) get rid of some kits. I don’t think I can cope with many/any more(!)

Cancel my last; I’d forgotten about this version:

Gecko did right by offering a special edition of the Katy with a resin figure of HRH Elizabeth.
Maybe they will do a civy version of the Landy with a figure of Vera ? :joy:

The one Landy I’d like to see is the 101FAC one of my favorites had a neighbor with 2 of them in Florida they got used a lot in TV and films

You should perhaps (!), but it’s not a bad little kit. A modelling mate has produced a very fine model from it - without too much fuss; see here:

Pete’s Model World : Firing Line Land rover 1 Tonne

and just to whet your appetite:

Looks great. Do they have the hard top version of it?

Bloody hell Robert you don’t want much do you?(!)

The only hardtops I’m aware of are the Royal Signals version with doors in the side, or the ambulance version - and sadly - “No”.

I do have one in my stash - destined to tow the 105mm Light Gun, which I think was its main purpose in life.

I’ve driven one which was quite interesting until I got used to it; most of the engine seemed to divide the front compartment, and the gear stick came at you from the rear.

My neighbor had a soft and hardtop and there was a third hardtop being restored with a RV AC unit on top of the roof cause Florida is HOT
I liked how they drove in a classic Can over type of way and reminded me of an old 60’s Dodge A100 with the engine in the middle of the cab. But with full on four wheel drive…

Thanks for the information I appreciate it

Just to wrap it up Robert, in 1/76 modellers are well served:

The Airfix Ambulance version (they do a soft top as well - and a 105mm Light Gun come to that):

And Oxford Diecast do a few variants and in different finishes too:

All filched off the www.

If I was a small-scale modeller I think I’d pack it in looking at the quality of the ready-made diecasts.

That would be great, numerous vignette and diorama possibilities for that. Of course if no one releases a figure of Vera, you’d have to convert one. There are many civilian figures out there now, so it shouldn’t be that hard right ?

Wow Brian, didn’t know those existed!

That’s a cool looking truck!

I’m currently watching CB Strike. There’s a Land Rover in that show too.
Isn’t there a campaign on this site for civilian Land Rovers? Could have sworn I saw it….
