Korean War US softskins

So looking to add a US softskin in the future to my Cold War collection but want something from the Korean War other than the deuce and a half. So armour is fairly easy to research but soft skins not so much and I know at least the British army post WWII got rid of a lot of surplus soft skins, I assume the US army did the same(?) so my question marking aside would either of these trucks be suitable?

The second one should be OK…

Both are the same basic truck kit (a Dodge 1.5T truck made in WW2) and soldiered on for some time after the war. Essentially your choice is between one fitted with the Wrecker Set 7 crane, and one towing the 1-ton “Ben Hur” trailer. I would expect both to be in use in Korea, but in different roles - the wrecker was in a maintenance unit doing things like engine replacements, while the truck with trailer could be hauling gear and/or troops for most units.

Other choices would be the Dodge ambulance, or any of the various Dodge weapons carriers. Then there’s the Jeep - they were everywhere!

Thank you both for your replies, I sort of have a thing for anything engineering so I’ll probably go for the wrecker.

Tom regarding the Jeep I found this photo while trying to do some research a couple of months ago, although not in US service and possibly a little known by some, country involved and highly respected by those they fought along side by all accounts.

Another trick to consider is the GMC CCKW 352, of which Hobby Boss and Italeri make kits of.

The Dodge WC series was also still in use during the Korean War

Too bad there’s still no International M-5H-6 in 1/35th scale…

Pretty much any vehicle that was used during WWII was still in use during the Korean war. A few were upgraded (Tokyo Depot Shermans), and a there were a few new pieces like the M26/46 Pershing and M38 and M38A1 jeeps.

Thank you everyone for your input, however by chance while having a bit of a sort out I found something that somehow had gone down behind the stash. It only comes with one set of markings so they will no doubt need changing but would this be correct for Korea?

If the vehicle would be correct, any help would be appreciated with correct bumper codes.

Edit: noticed @Frenchy mentioned the 969 above. Duh

Yes, according to this:

“Initially known as the 969 during WWII, the designation of the 4-ton wrecker was changed to 969A when the instruments and filters were changed to the Military Standard type. The wreckers continued in service through the Korean War.”

The one in the picture I posted appears to be the soft top version, just like the one you have.

There’s another one in the background
