'Kwame needs his rest'

Your diorama reminds me of A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah.

Child soldiers are disturbing enough. What your photo and others illustrate is that these “soldiers” don’t even receive any kind of real training. They are fodder, as in other ongoing conflicts where untrained soldeirs are senselessly sacrificed.
How much training did these guys get?

@tiking Excellent composition and execution! Well done! Based upon my limited time in Africa (a couple of months), the fighters and the area are far too tidy. Too improve the realism, I suggest you add litter, lots of litter, to the street and building. The fighters clothing would be more realistic with some stains and smudges. These could be quickly added with some dry pigments. Again, this is nicely done diorama of a neglected area.

Excellent vignette and it captures a scene that few modern modelers care to create. The grass and colors look accurate to the scene.

The best information and photos, although now dated, I’ve seen and read on modern African militia and child soldiers was from Dragon Concord’s “Special Operations Journal” (SOJ) that was hard to find in hobby and online stores. Back then, I had a hobby store that stocked them quite well when they were published.

Yves Debay covered these war areas quite well and I miss his reporting, but without Concord’s SOJ, it’s very hard to read up on these “Not in the daily news spotlight” brush wars. Concord’s SOJ was stopped by Dragon in that it didn’t sell well, didn’t return the investment or made a profit, or for whatever reason. The Concord SOJ editors and journalists split up and some published other content, but they never really got together or rose in fame again with the cancellation of Concord SOJ.
