Lanmo announces four new Sherman coming soon, two of them with full interior

Interesting choice of variant! Full interior will split opinions of course. And the gun has a spring to fake recoil? Not sure why they crow about efforts to simplify the interior, but instead of moulding straps onto the exterior tools they go with fiddly PE ones. But the tracks look interesting. We’ll see when they come out and get reviewed…

This is very hopeful. The people at Lanmo can now release complete mine roller, bulldozer, rocket launcher, and wading tanks.

Questions:

Is it easy to lock out the workable suspension to ensure the model sits flat?

Are the track pins robust enough to survive handling? (Most individual link VVSS tracks shatter when handled.)

Are there any interesting marking options in the box?

Are the brass parts optional or required? For example, are there injection molded headlight brush guards in the box?

Good questions! If you are the type to play with the recoiling gun, chances are you’ll also push it along the carpet to see the suspension working…

From their previous kits I can tell you that the interior is a separate kit, so buy it if you want it, the PE parts are essential, but they may surprise you with a 3d print alternative, the tracks I would not hold my breath for, as it is most likely 3d printed, with a flexy resin that allows snaptogether construction (it is the same company as heavy hobby). Finaly, since heavy hobby does the crab, and several dozers for shermans, I expect a kit with those may be coming.

Nice to see a small hatch dry stowage M4A3 finally in 1/35. But the interior kits if they are sold separately are exactly what I need for a few stalled projects…

Could the 75mm M4a3 interior be used to do a m4a2? Not so worrired about the engine, don’t get me wrong a M4a2 engine set / bay would be great as well. :joy::rofl::rofl:

If we’re talking the dry-stowage A3, then the only big visible difference I can think of would be the driver’s instruments. Not sure about the three different turret-traverse gear systems though - you may have to research what’s in the kit. The rear wall of the fighting compartment will be slightly different, but I’m not sure how much of that can be seen once the turret basket etc are in the way. Turret fittings, gun, ammo stowage etc should be the same.

Thank you very much for the reply and information, what exactly is different re the instrument panel?
Cheers

I’d need to dig out illustrations, but IIRC the whole instrument panel is different in size, shape, and layout.

Would it be able to be replaced with the M10 instrument panel?

Possibly. I can’t recall what comes in the Academy kits.

The large hatch version shouldn’t have a grouser box and the small hatch should have them, but be flushed mounted.

The early interior M4A3 with dry stowage might work for an M4A2. I’d have to look in the Hunnicut book for detail drawings to confirm. The M4A2 never went to wet stowage on the 75mm gunned large hatch types. Same goes for the M4 composite hull and large hatch M4A1 75mm

A new line of Shermans, fine. With interior, OK. Interior details for the Shermans are not my cup of tea (too small openings, mainly if you want to use some crew), but I always wish luck for any new kits.
However: why NOBODY makes a DD version? Practically all VVSS variants already has an at least decent plastic version, except the DDs.

Too difficult? Not enough information?
Could be build with screens up, stowed or removed.
I would like one in styrene.

As far as I’m aware this is the first small hatch hull M4A3 in plastic.

But indeed, small hatch Shermans don’t allow for much of the interior to be seen, unless you display the model in some novel way.

And I’d welcome a DD Sherman, but as @Uncle-Heavy pointed out, there are many options to decide between, besides deciding if you want to do an American or British one. Personally I’d like an American one with the screens removed, so I can build the tank from the book “Barbara”.

I would like an American DD Sherman with the screens up. I have the Resicast DD Sherman, with no screens, but the daunting task of creating a raised screen from styrene rod and tissue has kept the model in the stash.

A DD could be offered in all three configurations - screen up, screen down, and screen removed. Probably separate kits instead of a three-in-one, but if the screen parts are on a separate sprue for each, most of the kit is the same regardless so it’s not too much extra to invest. We can only hope…
