Laser protection filters on AFV periscope lenses

I am aware that many current tanks and AFVs are equipped with laser protection filters on their periscope lenses. When were these introduced? Were these fitted to any of the Challenger 1 MBTs?

Not fitted to Cr1. They came into play later.

Prior to sights coming as standard with laser protective coatings, goggles were issued as required. I only ever had these issued once otherwise they stayed in stores.

Were those the type issued to Milan teams? They seem familiar - I was a member of a Board of Inquiry once in my Infantry Battalion when a pair went missing.

There was never any resolution; I assume some TA dude is still strutting his stuff on the Costa del Sol wearing them(!)

I imagine they were for issue to anyone using optical kit which wasn’t laser protected, so Milan teams may have been included. I got them on an active edge where we actually deployed, as in Scammels tipped up and we loaded tanks to go to a deployment area. Other than that they were in a starred item locker in Q’s gaf.
