Very nice work
Guitar strings work well with me for antennas usually 10/11 but you can go a bit thicker if required.
Looks really good! I’ve enjoyed following along.
I’m not sure but I think the CFR number might be off. I thought the C2’s CFR’s started with 8 and 9? @AD_Sewards would have better knowledge than me.
Then again, they sometimes blocked out some of the numbers in Afghanistan with squares?
Seriously, good to know which gauge! I need to start saving my cut offs.
If you play LaBella .08’s on your B and E (Tony Iommi) then I guess you’re out of luck. ![]()
Good advice, Ivan! Thanks. We have a musical instrument store in town, they should have it. I’ll ask.
I went for this photo, which shows exactly the tank I’m building. Decals are all from the box.
PS: Anthony’s last visit to the Kitmaker Forums was on the 3. February. Hope, he’s okay!
The Leopard C1 hulls…converted to Leopard C2 hulls…were all had 78 as a precursor for the CFR.
The Canadian Leopard 2s…2A4 CAN, 2A4M CAN, and 2A6M CAN…all have 85 as a precursor for the CFR.
By now I call this build finally finished. Took me longer than I thought and had planned. Later I will add some dust from with pastel chalk and the antennas. Final parts to add were the towing cables and the clear parts for the head lights. Mainly I used Vallejo 71250 Bronze Green for the camo, all other paints come from Revell Aqua. This is my fourth Leopard 1 and the seventh Leo in total. First show for this Leo will be in August in Andelfingen/Switzerland.
I want to thank everone here who has followed the build and supported me with comments and/or likes and I hope you enjoyed this build blog. It was much appreciated! A special thanks goes to Anthony and Jason for their invaluable help. Thanky you guys! ![]()

Sorry, I don’t check this site that often, busy doing a few projects for Model Companies to bring out detailed kits, Modern Canadian AFV reference sets, and a few books in the works……. The kit decals have some issues, this one should not be used as it actually shows Mechanized Infantry , TAKOM was sent corrections for the C2 kits decals, but they have not done the corrections, and has caused quite a few modellers to be quite pissed for the incorrect information. Plus we stopped paining call signs onto the tanks in the early 2000’s, we used sign boards as the main reason was the tanks often changed troops or were swapped out due to breakdowns . If anyone is looking to track me down for questions, and if you are on Facebook, reach out 100% and I will help you out with your builds. Also, if you are on Facebook and are looking for the best collection of info on our Leopard 1 & 2 fleet, check out the Canadian Military Modellers Association page, there you will find everything that you will need in regards to Canadian armour reference and massive photo albums.
Cheers Anthony Sewards
This should actually read LdSH not LJSH, and the XI is in the wrong position, here is an actual vehicle stencil showing the correct Armoured tactical sign
Example of actual sign boards that we used , mainly black with white lettering, but we used Green coloured metal boards with yellow lettering . You can see no extra markings were added to the hull sides/rear.
This is such good info it makes me want to pull one of the Leo1 kits out of my stash.
If you do plan to , please feel free to ask for help anytime and will help you out to get the details just right…..
Turned out nice Torsten.Ive enjoyed following your build on this one.Im sure i will have to add a C2 to my Leopard stash in due course.
Richard
You know you want to Russ!!.Got to keep the Leopards rolling,Still beavering away with my Bundeswehr Leopard 1A3.
Think decal companies need a gentle nudge to do some more Leopard sheets for several countries.I saw Hobbyboss releases for this year and looks like no more Leopards.Hoping next year for a C1 in styrene and id love to see a Dutch 1V as well.
Great info Anthony.
ATB frim Richard
Anthony, no need to excuse! Happy to see you here again after a little break! Everyone of us has more important things to do than to stroll through a model forum. Though I do it nearly daily … ![]()
Thanks for all your input in this thread! So valuable not only for me!
Before I added the decals I had a look again at the remarks you made already in post 14 in this thread. Jason came up with some photos I had questions about in post 86. The tank on these photos is exactly the one I built (call sign 22). And the unit sign (see yellow arrow) looks very much like the one on the Takom decal sheet. I guess they had the same photos …
But you’re right, it should read LdSH and not LJSH. On the other side, it’s just a tiny decal and I believe we have not many experts of canadian armor here in Germany. Most people won’t even notice it when they look at the model … ![]()
Go for it, Russell! This Takom kit is really nice to assemble. And building Leopards can become an addiction, I know. As mentioned above I have built 7 already (4 x Leo 1, 3 x Leo 2) and more are in my stash. Have also the BPz 2 (Bergepanzer) from Takom in my stash. Looking forward to build it one day in Bundeswehr markings.
Thanks Richard! Glad you enjoyed it. But it would have been only half as enjoyable without the feedback of all other members here!
Thank you all and always happy modelling!

But now I’m going back to my long time thread “Torsten’s bench works” and start a new project with building 2 Spitfires … ![]()
Here is a close up pic of the tactical marking on the Leopard C2, callsign ‘22’ that Takom based some of their decals on.
As you can see, the decals in the kit are actually correctly depicted. It was the tank crew that applied the incorrect tactical marking on the real Leopard C2.
Also, if you look at the LdSH lettering in the image below, the ‘d’ is very weak and could easily be mistaken for a ‘j’ by Takom.
You are correct Torsten, that these are very minor details and hardly anyone will notice.
Thanks for the clarification and the photo, Jason! Much appreciated! So Takom didn’t do wrong here. That’s good to know.
I took the C2 out today for a first ride to the club meeting in Mannheim and no one of the guys noticed the decal. When I told them they didn’t now what LdSH means. As I said, you won’t find many experts of canadian armor in Germany …
The folks here at the Kitmaker Family are great, I know that and I tell everybody! ![]()
