Looking through an issue of the C&O Historical Magazine I found an article identifying several, not exhaustive, list of common lineside structures.

Some Line-Side Structures

Coal House (10- and 20-ton) for heating coal for structures

Mail Cranes

Privy, Standard, with lattice screen

Section Tool House (Motor Car Shed)

Shelter Station, had freight rooms where company materials could be stored

Station Signs

Telephone Boxes

Watchman Shanty

Some time ago I wanted to build a picture from a book on the Stalingrad campaign for a small battle fought around a signalman’s house….

No, without access to back numbers of C&O Historical Magazine the issue number is irrelevant. Hence the post lists subjects suitable for research by interested individuals, regardless of geographical location.

@skurcz Stan, good to see you posting again. The issue is Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society magazine, issue 2020 Feb. You can search their archives and even buy CDs of the magazines. Apparently, you must join COHS to obtain full access. Lots of good info such as…
