Looking for RFM RM-5004 Abrams part E116 / advice on replacement

Hello! I’m not sure where to post this and so I thought It’d be appropriate of me to ask here.

”Hi everyone,

I’m looking for part E116 from sprue E for the Rye Field Model RM-5004 Abrams in 1/35.

I lost it while building the kit. It’s a small part, but I’d like to finish the model neatly. I usually wouldn’t make a big deal out of something this small, but I’m planning to give this one to my grandfather, so I thought I’d ask here before I keep searching the carpet for hours.

If anyone has a spare E116, sprue E, or a damaged/incomplete RM-5004 kit for parts, I’d be happy to pay for the part and postage.

I’d also appreciate any advice on where to find replacement Rye Field Model parts, apart from asking around on forums.

Thanks in advance!”

Might be better in the for sale section.

You could try to make the part as it’s a couple of flat pieces.

Taken from our own @Petition2God cults3d page. He doesn’t have the part you need but the one highlighted.

@_AC my suggestion is to scratch build it using some styrene rods (e.g. Evergreen rods/strips) or leftover sprues, instead of trying to buy the entire sprue or 3D print. It does not look too hard to make it.

I took some photos of the part from RFM kit:

Length: 5mm

Width: 2 mm without the bolt details. Each bolt about 1 square mm

Height at the highest: 4 mm. Lower bottom: 0.5mm

Angled around 40 degrees.

It’s hardly visible once you assemble the kit, too. I hope this helps.

Yeah, part of that looks like it would be a perfect candidate for .060 Evergreen angle.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the advice.

I don’t remember when was the last time I had this many people trying to help me or drop some advice. If I can’t find a cheaper replacement than buying a spruce I’ll definitely contemplate going down the DIY route, I’m just a bit concerned whether I’ll be able to pull off something like that on such a small scale. I’m considering making a very small piece out of plasticine since it’s easy to shape and soft, then brushing it with thin layers of glue so that I can could again press it into something and create a mold for me to pour plastic into, I can’t think of a better solution on the spot.

Since you’re new I’ll let you in on an old veteran trick. It’s called the strategically placed tarp.

I have an old dragon M1A2 SEP that I built as a kid it’s sitting in a box marked for the trash. I took a look ar it and it looks like I did a bad job assembling it lol, lucky for you that means the part isn’t adhered very well. I could take a crack at removing and sending it to you.

Is it just 116 you need?

Edit:

yup as suspected it popped right off. One of the two points chipped off but I was able to locate it and fix it up. I tried stripping the paint with IPa but was only partly successful, brake cleaner would probably work. Looks like younger me was worse than I thought, seams and sprue gate still need cleaning up

If all else fails I’ll contemplate getting myself a nice tarp.
