Hi all, looking for MAERSK decals in white lettering in 1/35 for a 20’ container used on the LVSR MKR18. I haven’t found anything in 1/35 but found some in 1/48 for a 45’ container, 1/64 for a 45’ container and 1/87 for a 40’ container.
According to references I looked up for the different scales,
1/35 20’ container is 6.83" long x 2.76" wide x " high 2.91
1/48 45’ container is 11.25" long x 2.00" wide x 2.375" high
1/64 45’ container is 8.43" long x 2.74" wide x 1.78" high
1/87 40’ container is 5.51" long
All different scales with different LxWxH but which scale lettering would be the best fit for the 1/35 20’ container? I am thinking the 1/48 might be the best fit.
These are the decals I found with MAERSK in white but none for a 1/35 20’ container. Which scale would be the best fit for the 1/35 20’ container? First one is 1/48 for a 45’ container. Second one is 1/64 for a 45’ container and last one is 1/87 for a 40’ container.
I was looking for something similar to the one shown in the first photo but with the container in blue with the MAERSK in white as seen in the second photo. I know the second photo doesn’t show a 20’ container but I want to do a 20’ container in blue as seen in the third photo.
Black Ops Models produces a 20’ container that includes painted masks that has the Maersk logo on the sheet. You could reach out and see if they will just sell the masks?
You don’t have to settle for close enough if you don’t want to. I’ve posted on the old armorama site and this one how to do this:
Take your artwork from those decals. Enlarge it until it’s exactly the size you want. Cut out the lettering block and spray the back with 3M spray mount. After it becoms tacky, stick it to a sheet of white decal film face out. Do yourself a favor and align the bottom of the lettering with the edge of the sheet. With a brand new no. 11 blade, cut the lettering out. Use a metal straight edge for the straight parts. You’re lucky on the MAERSK logo -it’s almost all straight. After the letters are cut out, carefully peel the printed letters off of the decal letters. They’ll be perfect. Not only that - absolutely no decal film around the edges to worry about - a problem that still seems to baffle some folks. I’ve got limited wifi where I am (a blessing!) so I don’t have time to find the threads, but I think one of them described the same method I used when I did the markings for this I built this Linebacker serveral years ago:
I might try the 1/48 decals if I don’t hear back by next week. It isn’t a rush as I haven’t even opened the kit yet.
As Rob suggested, I could also make my own masks and cut them from white decal sheet. Will have to test print to get the approximate size. Also, great job on your Bradley markings.
