I remember my first station in Germany. Our platoon sergeant had us in 0830 formation. He asked if anyone ran track in school. Two guys raised their hands. He told them to meet him down at the motor pool at 0900 for track detail.

I saw a kid drive an M113 into a floating rice paddy only to get it bogged down to the hull bottom. He kept trying to get out and just getting worse and worse. Then he threw a track just make it real good. They tried to pull it out with two M48’s and it wouldn’t budge a fraction of an inch. Then the track Sargent shows up in an M88, and it won’t get it out. They planted charges under the hull to break the suction and with two 48’s and the M88 drug it out. Getting the track out was just as bad! They get a pair of new tracks flown out, and just get started when it starts raining. I bet they beat that driver silly with a “No Bic Stick”. I know that track Sargent very well, and to this day he is not a happy camper when the subject comes up.
