M1 Abrams ID help

I have dimensions taken from a similar looking gun shield I gathered at a militaria show a few years ago if you want to have a go at scratchbuilding it.

Thanks! I will take a look at them but I doubt I would be able to scratch build it. I will send you a PM.

The RFM M1A1/A2 TUSK kits have some shields for the commander’s cupola on the parts tree “J” that I am not using. These look like good donors for the loader’s gun shields I was asking about. I can modify them and I will try to scratch build the rest of the shields.

The RFM parts look too square. The actual shields are more rectangular. The Tamiya M1A2 TUSK kit also has those same commander’s cupola shields. I already primed mine as I was going to make my Tamiya kit as a TUSK I but changed it to a different build. It is still a TUSK I but without the commander’s shields so I will use the Tamiya shields instead. They look closer to the ones I want to do.

With your help, I designed this gun shield for the M1 Abrams. It fits the RFM Abrams without problems.

Looks terrific. Can’t wait to see you fit it to your kit.

This tank is a middle production M1A2 SEP with the secondary batteries. These started production sometime around 2005.

Going off of Barrel Band markings, this would be 3ACR during their 2007? or 2008 into 2009 deployment to Iraq. Possibly their 2011 deployment, but by then they had TUSK II on their SEPs.

Welcome to the forum.

The following photos are also 3 ACR, 2007-2008. Two with barrel bands, one without. All tactical markings painted over except for the roof ID.

My terp, Big Al.

Any more pics of that M113 w/bar armour? That’s very cool!

It’s an M1064. I did a whole walk around of it, inside and out, concentrating on how the armor is attached. I’ll send it to you tomorrow,

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

Would the one in my original post have the CIP panels on the front of the turret? There are no other CIP panels on the sides or rear of the turret so would it still have the ones on the front?

Kreyton opines it might be 3 ACR in 2011. He seems to know what he’s talking about. This is 3 ACR from 10 January, 2011:

But note panel on turret side.
