Got the fenders and road wheels painted. I used the AK RC rubber black marker. My hand isn’t as steady as it used to be so the road wheels aren’t perfect.
With over spray, the 1:1 road wheels weren’t always perfect either.
@loncray, I was thinking the weathering would cover parts of the wheels.
@SableLiger, yes, thanks for the reminder about the caps. The one I am using as a reference looks like they might be covered in sand/dust and the black doesn’t really show. I don’t know if they were painted over, maybe?
In this image, they are all sand colored. Is it just the sand caked on the wheels covering the center caps?
Yes. The caps are actually clear and filled with oil to lube the hubs. They are clear so the oil level can easily be seen by the crew when doing maintenance.
@HeavyArty, @18bravo, thanks for the replies. I know they should be black but I am going to show mine as weathered with the sand covering the caps on this particular M1A2 as seen in the images I posted. I will paint the other ones in black as I have a lot more M1A1/A2 kits to do.
Probably would go with a half black half grey/tinted color as the cap is only half full of lubricant.
@18bravo - Damn near choked on my coffee. It must be 20 years since I heard that penguin joke! Still hilarious ![]()
I paint mine with Tamiys clear colors smoke
