M109A3 Shop van...is this too green?

Calling this one done! Too afraid to push the weathering on this…too happy with how it came out so I’m leaving it as is. Let me know what you think…happy modelling!

excuse the cat hair…it sat on my bench for a while while I decided whether or not to do more weathering…

Fabulous looking interior, and fantastic paintwork on the outside, with that exhaust to top it all off…

Simply stunning imho. Beautiful finish both inside and out. Thought it was a real truck at first, attention to detail is outstanding.

Beautiful work! I’d like build something like that in time, but your skills would never be available to me. Love the finish, where did you find those bumper codes?

Truly impressive. I wish there was a video of this work!

Maybe add some electrical cable to the drill press and the grinder?

Excellent work! The interior is especially realistic.

While that certainly seems appropriate, if this were “my” shop van (temporarily on loan from the Army) I’d do to it what I’ve done in my home shop - drill through the worktable so that all cords can be out of the way and out of danger from being squashed, cut, or tangled around something.

I am sure that there is an Army Regulation for this. I always wonder where you get the electric power for the machines? From vehicle battery or is there an APU?

Hello!
Great job, I like this model a lot! The weathering is very good in places, like for example the front bumper.

@HermannB - you could check out the TM (available online) to be sure, but I guess it will be similar like in the ZiL-130 I’ve built some time ago, namely a generator driven from the transfer case PTO, meaning it’s using the truck engine as source for AC Power.

Have a nice day!

I can’t speak directly to shop vans, but the 5t trucks I drove with big MI huts on the back always had a generator set in tow; no PTO for power.

Maybe this type of genset?

PU-619 or commercial power. There’s a PU-619 on display at Ft. McCoy.

Yup, just like that or the next size up. My battalion had 4 altogether; we were a weird “Mobile Field Station” hybrid unit. Loved driving that truck!

Out ot interest, was that an M54, an M813 or M923?

Love ‘em all by the way.

Would’ve been M923s. While I’m sure there are better trucks today, ours were big, fast, good looking and easy to maintain and drive.
