M109A3 Shop van...is this too green?

Well as the title says I’m looking for opinions on the bright green and if it’s too bright for this vehicle…oddly enough I was not happy with it at all and I WAS going to respray it a darker shade but I decided to tighten up the other MERD-C colors first and now…well now I kinda like it and I’m torn lol. Please let me know what you all think…honest opinions!

Hi Chris, what color green is that? It does look quite a lot brighter than the greens in my Vallejo MERDC paint pack, but I’m a newbie to MERDC anyway……

Oddly enough, an M109 shop van and trailer is my prospective next project.

fantastic pattern! And the green can be toned down by some washes.

Hello!
I like your MERDEC camo a lot and I would leave the green as it is, otherwise you risk losing the nice contrast that it has right now. Looking forward to seeing your shop van finished, I hope you’ll post the pitures!
Good luck with it and have a nice day

Calvin @Chris83 your camo pattern is perfect, the light green does smack you at first but a filter and washes will mellow it some as mentioned already. Personally I’d paint the wheels the base color green but others may disagree. All in all it looks great.

I agree, the weathering process will tone it down and the paitn job looks great.

That’s a good point - wheels should be OD or Forrest Green, you could also mix wheels in these two colours.

Good job on the interior - it reminds me of my ZiL-131:

I installed LED lighting in mine, otherwise not much would be visible, even though the doors are open.

Good lick with your build and have a nice day

Excellent work Chris, I admire your skills! Are you going to hook that HobbyLink Shop Van trailer on the back of your M109?

Hey Thank you all! Denimo I’m actually using that trailer for a diorama I’ve been wanting to build for a while so no not on this truck. I’m keeping this one all on it’s own since there’s a LOT to look at with the kit as is. I’m leaving the door and all the windows open and the roof to the rear is such a good fit I’m not going to glue it so all the little details can still be seen. I switched the color on the rims to the dark green and I’m waiting on the varnish to dry before i can start with filters. More pics coming soon!!! Happy modelling everyone.

That’s a great job there Chris! I love the camo, a tad bright but I would not worry about it with some weathering or a filter maybe it will be fine. The interior is fantastic as well!

The camo colors remind me of the colors the 7th ID vehicles were wearing when I was at Planet Ord back in the early 80’s, 80-81.

finished all the interior bits and getting ready to close things up for good so i wanted to post some pics before hand. Again I’m not gluing on the roof of the workshop itself but the cabs gonna be closed forever…enjoy!

Superb work Chris! I love that dashboard, are they the kit decals or a/m? Beautiful job on the workshop end of things too.

That truck is in a class of its own.

Thank you! Denimo the dials on the dashboard are kit decals…theyre really stiff but some sovaset got them to settle nice then i did the glass effect with some cheap UV resin fom amazon. Tankerken I got the paper towels along with the gas can and grease bucket from a set I found on e-bay…decals came with the set but these were even MORE stiff then the afv decals…took multiple applications of various decal solutions but in the end I’m very happy with them

work on this beast continues…I had to step away for a little bit because i noticed that at some point part of the front bumper that secures to the chassis frame had a bit of a bloweout and the plastic tore. I was considering just scrapping it but I pushed through and Im going to try and disguise it as some rotting metal and hopefully it’ll be passable. Next is going to be some rust effects then some dust. Also using a gray oil filter really did help to tone down the extreme contrast and Im very happy with it now…pics below

The blow out I mentioned…

comments and suggestions please!!!
