Group, I know this is the place for an answer. A buddy of mine spent a couple of tours over in Vietnam, central Highlands if I recall. He’s building the 1/16 M113. He wants to know who makes a paint that’s the color of the Interior that he can buy as he does not want to mess around with trying to mix one up. He said he knows what the color is but he’s looking for a commercial paint that will match. He said he rode in them a few times but he preferred to ride on the roof because they were RPG magnets. He says he also has a story about that that he’ll tell me. He wrote:
Any help on the M-113 interior color would be great. It is a weird light green aqua. I’m sure it was used in all armor vehicles of that time period
A few options
Tamiya XF-21 Sky
AK Real Color 078 APC interior green
Mr Color Duck egg green with intermediate blue if too bright
Mission Models Surf green
Vallejo 885 pastel green
Only on APCs, MBTs were painted flat white. Early gasoline-powered M113s were painted white too; but from M113A1s forward, they were painted sea foam green.
Men, thanks a lot. You answered his question he’s very happy. He’s building the 1/16 M113 and already has the interior painted now. I appreciate all your help.
I’m making tests with Tamiya colors and FS-595B, unfortunately XF-71 is way too dark. I fear that a mix will be needed, and I tested some with Tamiya colors, but none good till now.
The closer color I found is Italeri 4855AP, flat italian interior green, but Italeri colors are frail, It would require a primer for an acceptable grip. I’m considering to go on the AK paint.
Tamiya XF-21 Sky is much lighter; this is the correct shade IMO. It’s a dead-ringer to Meng’s molded plastic color used on the M2A2 Bradley BUSK and on the M3A3 CFV Interior kit.
