M113: Jack Of All Trades

Probably for US vehicles. I’m not as familiar with M113’s as I’d like to be but I think the Canadians use Diehl track, first 213B and then 213G. They look identical. Then there’s Diehl 513.
There’s also continuous rubber band track. I posted photos of an example about two years ago of an M113 not far from me that had it. Here they are:

They are available in 1/35 as well.

Count me in. I need a companion to my Merkava 1 so I am going with the academy Zelda.

. The kit photo’s look good but the box art just looks like diamond plate and roadwheels.

I’ve looked at the spacing of the holes on mine. The holes are far too large and spaced too far apart. I had bought the Verlinden PE set decades ago and was naturally disappointed with it as well.
I think for me the solution will be to add the ceramic to the armor, as the IDF did. Or you cango with this set:

I apricate the thoughts. Is the ceramic armor mod in the same time frame as the Merkava 1 and would the early road wheels still be ok or should they be updated to the steel?

Yes, the ceramic impregnated plate is good for that time. And you could go with with either wheel style although late type is more likely by then. Or replace one or two with early type. I may do that as well.

Roger that.

i found this picture which think is from the second invasion of iraq, you can clearly see two different track types on the M113’s that are side by sidd to each other. I hope this is of use to you guys.

According to what I read last night, American M113s use three types of track–T130 (single pin), T130E1 (single pin), and T150 (double pin). (There are more types of track that fit an M113.)

I really have no excuse not to get one done. They are falling out of the woodwork. Found this one in my bathroom closet this morning while looking for something for someone else:

Ha!. If I had not chosen the Zelda, this kit was to be my next choice.

May i suggest consolidating your kits into a central location that would give you piece of mind about their security and the ease of finding what you seek?

Impervious to everything short of a nuclear blast.
You can speak to matt about this issue.

perhaps you can tell us some of your hiding places so that the rest of us can implement them in our own homes…also what is your E & E plan for when you get caught?

I’ll bet Matt has one of those storage containers out in the wilderness somewhere. It is not full of models. Instead, it hides a ramp leading down to his secret underground model building lair.

The lair also stores a recreational vehicle with complete construction facilities on board and a mobile stockpile of 5 dozen models, allowing him to build anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Mexico on short notice. For long trips to other parts of the world, there is large yacht, similarly equipped, docked on a nearby river with access to the sea. A business jet with a smaller suite of facilities is stored in a nondescript hanger on a nearby airfield. This is for shorter trips abroad.

To the Mattmobile!

(This is a joke. Or is it?)

This is all the security I need:

It is impossible to store everything in a central location , although I am considering a separate zombie apocalypse bunker just for modeling, so that everything it out of the way. Well, modeing and reloading.

I don’t need to hide anything. My wife would rather have me buying more kits than put more girls through law school.

Not a modeling lair, but you’re not far off base. I’d say my level of preparedness is on a par with folks who would label themselves preppers, althought I find most of them don’t really know what the hell they’re talking about. And yet, I know some folks who are far more serious than I.

Like the comp?

A months groceries and a way to keep the zombies at bay. If it is worse than that, you are leaving and coming back when times are better.

I bought my wife another gun today for her birthday so I took her to an outdoor range where you can do your own thing. Met three guys who had their own little contest going - for stations, decreasing range, at four targets, one round each. My first time shooting in several months, and with my bad shoulder, (I could barely raise my arm enough to shoot) I tied their best score of the day. The comp didn’t help as it wasn’t timed, but it would have if we’d taken multiple shots at each target. So, made some new friends, had a good time, and ate at a Mexican place I’d been wanting to try for two years now. Worth the wait.

As for which M113 to build, still not sure. Probably still the TUA conversion, but mabe a 'Nam version as well.

You didn’t mention how well she did with the new toy.
