Although not always fitted, military ambulances are permitted to have fitted MG’s (usually cupola mounts) for close defence measures.

Just as medics are allowed weapons for self defense and for defending their patient.

Guess I never really seen that before. Only unarmed vehicles.
In my time neither Dutch nor German medical units had armed vehicles, only small sidearms for protection of personel.
